Southeast Leadout: Last blast of the cyclocross season

Cyclists in the Carolinas are going through an unusual spell of winter weather that is keeping them off the road. New England native Jeremy Powers ended his Greenville training and flew home just ahead of the winter storm. His instincts are good for more than winning races! Better weather and the Road racing season are just ahead and this snopocalypse will soon fade into our memories like a bad dream. For a little pre-season inspiration, read about HTC-Highroad’s Ally Stacher and her transition to pro cycling. Also, having a UCI sanctioned cyclocross race here in the southeast is not a bad way to finish off this year’s cross season. We’re looking forward to ringing cowbells and cheering on the racers ourselves.

Cyclocross

Head over the North Carolina state line to start a full weekend of cyclocross. Saturday the 15th is the Kingsport ’cross race in Tennessee. This is a UCI registered race and Adam Myerson will be racing there grabbing up points. Then hit Wilkesboro, North Carolina on Sunday for NCCX #12.

The penultimate Hot Laps Under the Lights is going off this Wednesday.

The following week brings the end of this year’s ’cross season. January 22nd and 23rd are the final races of the NCCX series. Number 13 of the series is being contested in Durham, North Carolina and then Finals (#14) are the following day in Greensboro.
