The Southeast Leadout is a weekly report on cycling in the Carolinas and the greater Southeast region.
ROAD
This Thursday is the penultimate POA Summer Series Criterium at the BMW Training Center. This is a great way to keep the legs sharp for the following day’s race the Friday Night Fight criterium in downtown Gaffney, North Carolina.
One race series that is ending for the season is the ACE Speedway Series Alamance County on the 31st. Remember this is the last chance to score points for the year.

MOUNTAIN
August 28 is the Rivers Edge Marathon in Rivers Edge, North Carolina. This 50 mile mountain bike race will test mountain bikers both mentally and physically.

TRIATHLON
August 29 South Carolina Half Ninety Six triathlon Moves into its eigth season and has become one of the most hotly contested events in the South Carolina Triathlon Series. This event has historically been a stepping stone and final tune up for those athletes looking to race well at Beach2Battleship or other long distance late season events. It has also become a season ending goal for many national athletes as they search for glory or the $1,500 prize purse offered at this event.

TOURS & GRAN FONDOS
This Saturday is the Tour de Gaps ride in Mt Airy, North Carolina. The scenic ride takes the cyclist up four separate gap roads, each of which climbs from the foothills valley floor up to the spine of the Blue Ridge Parkway. You climb up the gap road and return back down the same road to the rolling terrain of the foothills. The promoters guarantees this is one of the toughest rides that you will grow to love!
